Beatrice Kukcinovich Carl's Obituary
The memorial service for Beatrice E. Carl, 87 year-old Edmond resident, will be 2:00PM Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. Reverend Randall Spindle will officiate. Burial will precede the service in Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, OK under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Beatrice was born in Simpson, Pennsylvania on April 2, 1927 and died December 5, 2014.
Following graduation from Scranton State Hospital Nursing, she worked at Cornell Medical Center in New York City. While there, she attended Hunter College and art classes at several museums. After two years, she joined the USAF and became a flight nurse. Upon completing her flight tour, she was sent on special assignment to care for the Chief of Staff for the USAF, General Hoyt Vandenberg, at Walter Reed Army Hospital, during his terminal illness. At this time, she met many prominent visitors to the General including wartime colleague and commander, President and Mrs. Eisenhower.
Her next assignment was to the USAF Hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany, where she met and later married Dr. Barton Carl. After his tour, they moved to Oklahoma City for the completion of his training, where they have lived for the last 55 years. Bea worked at the VA Hospital and University Hospital. She loved to work and was later associated with Owen's Art Gallery, the Cowboy Hall of Fame, Ruth Meyers, Inc. and lastly Stein Mart. She loved her jobs and the very many friends she made.
Other interests were sewing, embroidery, quilting, cross word puzzles, light gardening, and reading. She especially liked physical exercise; walking, aerobics and playing tennis, which she did until she was 78. She enjoyed Revidere Book Club and the Margharitas, a retired ladies tennis group.
She is survived by her husband, Barton, of fifty-six years and her two sons, Peter and wife, Ginny and her children, Collin and Rachael, and John and his wife, Kathy, and their two sons, which she adored; Andrew and William. Two sisters, Ruth Koop of san Jose, CA. and Virginia Snedeker of Florida as well as Penny, the Chocholate Labrador rescue dog.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Westminster Presbyterian Church with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home, 601 W. Broadway, Enid, OK, acting as custodian of the fund.
