The memorial service for Dion Meek will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Garland Road Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Hook officiating. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Dion L. Meek was born 9/10/43 to Temple & Amy Lee Meek in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Princess Ann High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

He earned his BA Degree from George Washington University in 1965 and attended Graduate School serving as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Maryland. He was a nationally known debater in both high school & college. Dion had a love for teaching others and spent two years as a high school teacher in Virginia Beach, VA. He began his career in the Insurance Industry in 1971 working for American Mutual Liability Ins. and spent 5 years with Firemen's Fund Insurance before beginning his 30 year career as Marketing Manager with Messer-Bowers Insurance. He earned the CPCU designation in 1980.

Dion was active in the Oklahoma Association of Independent Insurance Agents (IIAO) serving as Chairman of the Education Committee (1980-81). He taught at the Annual Insurance School, serving as Honorary Dean in 1988. Dion served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Enid from 1985-86 and President of the Oklahoma Association of Independent Insurance Agents (2000-2001). He was the Oklahoma Representative to the Mid-America Technical Conference (1993-1999). Dion was honored on numerous occasions receiving the Mister Chairman Award from the American Association of Managing General Agents in 1981, the Insurance Industry Service Award of the Central Oklahoma CPCU Chapter and the Journal Record in 1997 and the Pointer Award from the IIAO in 1997.

Dion and Mary Lou Johnson were married on _August 26, 1967. They had four children, Traci, Kimberli, Tiffani and Jason who were the light of his life – only surpassed by his grandchildren and great grandson Barrett.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou, daughters Traci (Michael Kurtz) of _Madill, Ok, Tiffani (Willis Adams) of Enid, son Jason, of the home; brother _Temple Meek, Jr. "Spike" of Georgia and sister Vickie _Riffle of Oklahoma City, 11 grandchildren , 1 great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Kimmi. Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Children's Cancer association through the funeral home.
