Obituary

The funeral for Earl "Sonny" Smith, 84 year old Enid resident will be 11:00AM Saturday, May 28, 2016 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Kenneth Wade and Reverend Scott Whittenburg will officiate. Burial will be Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11:00AM in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Earl was born September 18, 1931 in El Dorado, Kansas to Earl and Edna (Harmon) Smith and died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in Enid. He moved to Enid as an infant with his family. He attended Harrison, Emerson and graduated with a GED through the Army in 1949. He worked various jobs from eigth grade on to support his family. He enlisted in the Army on May 13, 1951. He served with the 189th Field Artillery "The Persuaders" in Korea. He received two Bronze Stars in the war. After his honorable discharge on February 13, 1953, he returned to Enid where he began a thirty-six year career with Pillsbury Mills as a mill wright. On February 13, 1955 he married Eva Hatfield in Enid Bible Church by Reverend Scotty Alexander.

He was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Excel Oklahoma Camping Club and the Thunderbird Camping Club. He and Eva traveled to every state in the continental United Sates. He liked to tinker in his workshop and tend to his yard.

He is survived by his wife Eva, of the home; son, Steven Smith and wife Carol, of Enid; two granddaughters, Shayla Smith and Kattie Smith and husband, Patrick; two grandsons, Jason and Tyler Hollis; seven great-grandchildren, Jazmen, Jakob, Brooklyn, Lane, Brantley, Roy, and Jacklyn. One sister-in-law, Maurine Smith of Kansas. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Pearl, Bessie, Grace, and Elizabeth, and six brothers, Walter, John, Lee, Mabon, Harold, and Richard.

The family requests that attenders wear casual clothing. Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hison Funeral Home to Hospice Circle of Love.
