The funeral service for Eldon Showalter, 76 year-old Garber resident will be 10:00AM Saturday, November 29, 2014 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Scott Ray will officiate. Burial will follow in Garber Cemetery.

Eldon was born July 7, 1938 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Orvil and Lorene (Foust) Showalter and died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in his home in Garber. He attended Garber Schools and graduated with the class of 1956. He was the quarterback for Garber and played Enid in the first game ever played in D. Bruce Selby Stadium. On February 17, 1957 he married his high-school sweetheart, Anita Diel. The couple made their home in Garber for 17 years. Eldon was a manager for the Co-Op and they lived in Marshall for 15 years, and then Helena for another 15 years before he retired after 47 years and the couple returned to Garber.

He was a long-time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Garber. He was a volunteer fire-fighter for almost 25 years, a member of the Lion's Club, and refereed football and basketball for many years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and kept an immaculate lawn.

He is survived by his wife Anita, of the home. Two sons; Donnie Showalter and wife Charise, of Guthrie and Doug Showalter and wife Tamara, of Enid. Five grandchildren; DuWayne Melton, Courtney Fuksa, Heather Skinner, Tabitha Bloss, and Jessica Showalter. 9 great-grandchildren, one sister, Velma Lee White and husband Arlen, of Enid, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dale Showalter, one niece, Denise Kelley, and one nephew, Mike Kelley.
