The funeral for Gene O. Thrasher, a 90-year-old Enid resident will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Matt Miles will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gene was the first-born son of Clint O. Thrasher and Doris P. (Horsley) Thrasher, on February 4, 1935, in Enid, Oklahoma, and passed on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the Greenbrier Nursing Home. He was an avid sports fan and graduated from Oklahoma University in 1957 with a BA in Journalism.

He immediately went to work as a sportswriter for the Lawton Constitution Publication in Lawton, Oklahoma. Gene served as a sportswriter for over 42 years and continued to cover games long after his retirement for the Lawton Constitution. He loved athletes, athletics, and watched many games after his retirement.

The most remarkable trait in his life was he never judged anybody or did any harm to others his entire life.

He is survived by one brother, Clint O. Thrasher Jr., one sister-in-law Jane Thrasher, and several nieces and nephews.
