Howard Truett "Bud" Puckett was a carpenter, a sailor, a pilot, a mechanic, a driver, a sportsman, a photographer, and a husband, father and grandfather. Bud passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015.

He was born August 20, 1924, in Perryton, Texas to Edward Newton and Sarah Amanda (Pankey) Puckett. Bud moved to Enid, Oklahoma in 1926, at the age of two, when his father moved to the city to found the Union Equity Grain Cooperative. On December 8, 1941, President Roosevelt declared war, and Bud enlisted in the Navy three days later at the age of 17, going to war with other members of the Greatest Generation. He served until 1945 on DMS2 USS Lamberton as a carpenter. Upon returning from the war, Bud met and courted Charlotte Ann Carr. They married on December 27, 1946, and had two sons, David Lane Puckett and Edward Luke Puckett. Bud and Charlotte have shared a loving life together for more than 68 years.

After returning home from the Navy, Bud learned to fly and completed aircraft mechanic training at Dallas Love Field. While he did spend some time working at Woodring Airport, he eventually went to work at Union Equity. He was a carpenter during construction of several of the Union Equity elevators in Enid. For many years he drove a truck, hauling loads of grain to and from Enid-area elevators. He later worked in maintenance and in the scale house. He retired from Union Equity after more than 36 years.

Bud was a sportsman, enjoying camping, fishing and hunting. He shared this love with his family, especially, camping, fly fishing and exploring in the Gunnison area of Colorado. After retiring Bud and Charlotte took up photography, eventually winning local competitions with their compositions.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by brothers Charles Puckett, Ed Puckett and wife Mary, Beal Puckett, and Roy Puckett and wife Nell; sisters Ruth Robinson and husband Ralph, Mary Lee Sutton and husband Bill, Naomi Bear and husband Ted, Maxine Mercer and husband Marne; nephews Harlan Roy Puckett, David Beal Puckett, Larry Mercer, and John Mason Sutton; and niece, Douglas Vines.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte Ann of Enid; sons David Puckett and wife Jeanne, and Luke Puckett and wife Barbara; granddaughters Kaley and McKenzie Puckett; sister Gwen Mercer; nephews William Sutton, Mark Bear, Lee Mercer, and their families; and nieces Mary Nell Legg, Linda Ogden, Ann Bennett, Nancy Usera, their families, and the family of Douglas Vines.

A visitation with family and friends will be Friday, September 11, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Henninger~Hinson Funeral Home.
