Obituary

James Patrick "Pat" McGugin, 80, was born in November 23, 1941 in Enid, OKlahoma, to Vela (nee Robbins) and Clarence McGugin. He passed from this earthly life on the evening of August 2, 2022, after a brief illness. His memorial service will be 6:00pm Wednesday, August 17, 2022 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel.
Pat was raised in Enid along with his beloved younger sister, Beverly, with whom he shared many adventures. He was an exceptional older brother.
He attended Enid Public Schools, and graduated from Enid High School in 1959.
Shortly after graduating, Pat moved to New Orleans, Louisiana to work for the FAA as an air traffic controller. It was there that he met his future wife Jo Ann (nee Guzzo). After their marriage, they were on the move again with his job. He was to be an air traffic controller in Houston, Texas. Pat and Jo Ann made a home in Houston and had two sons, Timothy Patrick and Todd Michael.
Pat worked for the FAA for 23 years, until 1984, when they moved back to Enid. He then acquired a job at Vance Air Force Base, again as an air traffic controller. He remained there for 21 years until his retirement. Throughout his career, he received many awards and accolades, and was always proud of what he did.
Pat was an avid musician, he loved to play guitar and sing, and did it well. He played live frequently in many bands throughout his life, and made many life long friends doing so. He loved country music and especially enjoyed hearing the pedal steel guitar.
Pat's two grandchildren were the lights of his life. He was so proud of them and their accomplishments. He was a wonderful grandfather, and will forever be loved and missed by his grandchildren, children, family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Timothy Patrick McGugin; grandchildren, Christian and Audrey McGugin; daughter-in-law, Maria Harrington; beloved aunts and uncles, including Wayne and Joann Sawyer, to whom he spoke with every Sunday evening on the phone; a host of wonderful cousins, including sweet cousin, Susie (nee Powell) Denton (Larry), whom he grew up with and remained very close to throughout his entire life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Guzzo McGugin; son, Todd McGugin; sister, Beverly McGugin and his parents.
