Kathleen "Kay" Bonar was born Sept. 30, 1926 to Victor and Verna Carpenter Thomas in Holyoke, Colorado. In 1946 she married Patrick F. Rea, Capt. USAF. During their marriage they lived in Denver, CO, Anchorage, AK, and Sacramento, CA. Patrick died in 1961 and Kay remarried in 1966 to Maj. William "Bill" Bonar, USAF. They were transferred to Vance AFB in 1967 where Kay lived until her death June 4, 2015. During that 48 years she made many dear friends and touched many lives.
Kay worked at the Social Security Administration office for many years where she met and helped hundreds of people. She was an avid golfer and loved to visit the local casinos, where she was notorious for her luck on the slot machines. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for several years. Kay was known for having a friendly and outgoing personality, playful sense of humor, and a contagious laugh. She was a great fan of dogs, especially poodles. Her poodle Becky and later, Paris, were her beloved companions, accompanying her to friends' homes and car rides to run errands.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Weyland, and granddaughter, Kathleen Weyland, both of Houston, TX; her brothers Gordon Thomas of Paoli, CO and Roger Decker of Redding, CA. The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the special people in her life for their friendship and care: Thomas and Helen Klein, Sandy and Ken Nahorski, Danny and Cheryl Gray and family, Don and Dana Woods, Jo Niles, Peggy Blubaugh, and her caregiver, Carla Henigman. And a special thanks to Connor Gray for his personal assistance with groceries and newspapers.
At Kay's request, there will be no service. Friends are invited to her home for a reception at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 8. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to the Enid SPCA..
