Keith Devere Breckenridge's Obituary
Graveside services for Keith D. Breckenridge will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 19, 2014, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, with Rev. Marvin Reynolds officiating. Arrangements are by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home, Enid.
Keith was born on January 14, 1919, and was raised on a farm southwest of Pond Creek. During the Cherokee Strip Opening of 1892, his grandfather staked a claim after jumping off a train. Keith graduated from Pond Creek High School and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa where he distinguished himself as a member of both boxing teams and became a lifelong boxing fan.
He married his high school sweetheart Glorene Faye Reynolds in 1940 and worked in aircraft manufacturing and assembly plants in Wichita and Ponca City. He served in Europe during and after WWII. While stationed in Germany, he attended some of the Nuremberg trials. He returned home to take over the farming until he and Glorene retired and moved to Enid. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Keith and Glorene were longtime members of the Methodist Church in Pond Creek and later joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in Enid. He enjoyed singing bass in church choir and was a member of quartets that sang in funerals in Pond Creek for many years.
Keith met his Lord at the age of 95 on Sunday, April 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Daisy, his brother Shirley, his sisters Donna and Thelma, and his wife of 65 years, Glorene. Survivors include his son David (and wife Dena) of Oklahoma City, son Dennis of Parkville, MO, and his daughter Cheryl Day of Fort Collins, CO; 6 grandchildren Lisa Patton of Broken Arrow, Lori Looper of Oklahoma City and Julie Marks of Edmond, Shelly Campbell and Brad of Kansas City, MO, and Allison Brady of Fort Collins, CO; 14 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to Centennial Hospice, the staff at Emeritus At The Village and Warr Acres Nursing Home in Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and Emmanuel Baptist Church of Enid.
