Holy Eucharist will be held at 11:00 a.m. and funeral services at 2 p.m. for Robert (Bob) Woodrow Cannon, 96 year-old Enid resident, on Friday, April 10, 2015 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with The Reverend Dr. John Forest Toles officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Bob was born on July 1, 1918 at home in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Edward Cannon and Clara (Lee) Cannon, and died suddenly at home on April 3, 2015, surrounded by his children.

Bob attended elementary and junior high schools in Chicago, IL and high school in Enid, but was unable to graduate due to the need to help support his family during the Great Depression. He worked at various jobs after high school, including McGill's Drug Store followed by seven years at Montgomery Ward.

After the start of World War II, Bob volunteered for the Army Air Force in September 1942 and was sent to Fort Sill for basic training, Shepherd Air Field TX for aircraft engine school, Santa Monica CA for aircraft training, the airfield in Oklahoma City (now the FAA Center) for follow-on training, and final training at Jacksonville FL. In November 1943, Bob was sent by way of New York City, NY to Glasgow, Scotland aboard the Queen Mary. During his two years overseas he was stationed in England, Northern Ireland, France, Austria and Germany. After the war he sailed back to New York City, NY aboard the Timothy White Liberty Ship, and then traveled by train back to Oklahoma where he processed out of the service in February 1946.

Bob met Mercedes (Mickey) Rodriguez in March 1946 at the Enid Army Air Field (now Vance AFB) where they both were working. Bob and Mickey were married on August 3, 1946 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and made their home in Enid. They were married for 63 years. He was a very devoted husband and father, and is fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his unfailing integrity. Bob worked various jobs in the area and in 1950 started his career in aircraft engine support at Vance AFB as a propeller-driven engine mechanic for 11 years, followed by 22 years as a jet engine quality control inspector.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, teaching Sunday school classes, and was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge. His hobbies were playing golf, dominoes and cards, and he enjoyed model railroading.

Bob is survived by his children, Sharon Franklin and husband, Paul Dean of Enid; Ralph Cannon and wife, Kathy of Citrus Heights, CA; Sandy Waltz and husband, Bill of Enid; nine grandchildren: Elisa and Brian Herron of Bixby; Kris and Alan Green of Mustang; Joseph Etter of Tulsa; Tim Franklin of Enid; Annette and Greg Baker of Enid; Rob Cannon of Citrus Heights, CA; Sara and Patrick Gavin of Eureka, CA; Kevin and Melissa Waltz of Enid; and, Jill and Jeremy Helmer of Enid; thirteen great-grandchildren: Dillon and Mackenzie Green of Mustang; Joshua Herron of Bixby; Craig Franklin of Frederick; Bryce Baker of Enid; Rob Cannon of Carmichael, CA Isabella Cannon of Citrus Heights, CA; Jack and Eliot Gavin of Eureka, CA; Megan Waltz of Enid; Skylar, Gunner and Ava Helmer of Enid; one great-great-grandchild: Jaycee Waltz-Carson; one niece: Clara DeShan of Arlington, TX; and, several cousins. The family gives a special thanks to Terry Dennis for the devoted care she provided Bob in his last years.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Mickey; parents, Edward and Clara; brother, William; three great-grandchildren: Iris Blue Hobbs, and twins, Damon and Xander Waltz; and his best friend Jack LaCroix.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Loaves and Fishes of NW Oklahoma with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodians of the fund.
