Sherm Price's Obituary
The memorial service for Charles Sherman "Sherm" Price, 79 year-old Enid resident, will be 4:00pm Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Mitchell officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Columbarium of First United Methodist Church. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Sherm was born December 30, 1937 in Ottawa, Kansas to H.L. and Bessie Gertrude (Rumford) Price and passed away May 22, 2017 at his home in Enid.
He attended school in Ottawa where he was involved in football and basketball. After graduating high school in 1956, Sherm went on to Ottawa University where he was a part of the KCAC Basketball Champions in 1958 and 1959. He also attained the Tom Trigg Memorial Award for Outstanding Senior Athlete before earning his Bachelor's degree in 1960. Then, in 1964, he received his Master's degree from Emporia State University. For over 30 years, Sherm was dedicated to public education, either as an administrator, teacher, counselor or coach in both Kansas and Oklahoma. Eleven of those years were spent as a head football coach, winning four league championships and one state playoff game. His greatest achievement came in 2016 when he was inducted into the Braves Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 1965, Sherm married Gwendolyn Ann Rowe. In 1997, both he and Gwen retired from Enid Public Schools. They recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.
He was a long-time and active member of First United Methodist Church, TNT Sunday School Class and was on the Church Board. Sherm was a Trustee for the Enid Public School Foundation and committee member of the Enid Public School Staff Development as well as a member of the American Vocation Association and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Sherm is survived by his loving wife, Gwen; son, Lance Price and wife, Jill; their children, Paige and Caroline Price; daughter, Laurie Blodgett; her children, Morgan Blodgett and Cooper Brodgett; sister-in-law, Corlyss Rowe of Hays, Kansas as well as his furry friends, Chloe and Mia.
Memorial donations can be given to First United Methodist Church or Enid SPCA with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
