Verbia Mae (Koehn) Unruh, age 96, passed away peacefully July 18, 2020. She was born April 30, 1924 in Meno, Oklahoma to Robert and Anna (Wedel) Koehn, who preceded her in death. She married her longtime friend and love of her life, Leland Unruh, on November 27, 1943, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1993 along with brother-in-law's and their wives, Olan and Bernice Unruh, Leroy and Estilene Unruh, sister-in-law, Dorothy Koehn, and one great-granddaughter, Rylea Powell in February, 1993.

Verbia loved her family and friends. She sewed quilts, was a member of the LTL Home Demonstration Club, an artist, homemaker, bookkeeper, head cook, landscape boss, grandchildren and great-grandchildren sitter, and #1 farm hand. She was rarely still. Quilting with friends and painting with Bob Ross, "The Joy of Painting", on OETA were her favorites. She also shared her love of baking by making homemade cherry and rhubarb pies, homemade fresh bread, hot meat sandwiches for her grandsons, peppernuts at Christmas, watermelon and real fried chicken during harvest. She sang gospel hymns with her grandchildren while she played the organ or piano.

For many years Verbia worked very hard alongside Leland on the farm in Breckenridge, Oklahoma, building a successful farming operation that lasted over seventy years. They lived off the land with what God provided. No one ever left her table hungry. She was an active member of the Grace Mennonite Church and the Oklahoma Mennonite Relief Sale. It suited her servant heart. She said she did it because of a promise she made her God and husband. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." "Turn the other cheek, be kind and help others." These were words she lived by.

Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32, "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." And her favorite poem was "Footprints in the Sand".

Verbia is survived by her brother, Gerald Koehn of Medford, OK; two daughters, Barbara Jane Fiegel, Collinsville, OK; Deborah Jean Powell, Breckenridge, OK; grandchildren, Michael and Karen Powell; Mark and Tonya Fiegel; Heather and Doug Stowers; Malissa and Paul Foley; Nathan and Erica Powell; great grandchildren, Austin and Maggie Powell; Tyler and Anna Maly; Zac Powell; Aaron Fiegel; Derek Maly; Jordan Powell and fiancé, Carley Chambers; Lexie Fiegel; Kaley Stowers; Leland Powell; Cassidy Stowers; Isabella Powell; Craig Maly; Devin Dalton; Kirsten Maly; Dylan Dalton; Brody Powell; Skylar Foley; Avery Foley; Levi Foley; great-great grandchildren, Dawson Powell; Remington Powell; Hardy Powell; Scarlett Vines; Wyatt Maly as well as many nephews and nieces. All of these, she loved and touched deeply.

Please join us in celebrating her life Thursday morning July 23, 2020, at 10:00am in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Masks are encouraged per the wishes of the family. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Viewing is 8:00am-8:00pm Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Mennonite Church in Enid, Oklahoma or Oklahoma Mennonite Relief Sale with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
