Obituary

Virgil Almont Winters, Jr. was born November 2, 1934 on the family farm in Lucien Oklahoma and gained his wings on April 25, 2019. Virgil was the middle child born to Virgil Almont Winters Sr. and Beatrice Wilma Miller-Winters. Virgil had and older sister, Wilma Bea Winters-Keller (deceased) and a younger brother, Edwin Riley Winters of Hayward, Oklahoma.

Virgil graduated Hayward High School in 1952. And earned an Agriculture Education degree at Oklahoma A & M (OSU) in 1956. He taught school at Arkansas City, KS; Hugoton, KS; and Jay, Mill Creek, Bing and Maud, Oklahoma.

Virgil was drafted in the US Army and spent 2 years as a Cryptographer and drove a mobile command unit in Germany where he was also Boy Scout Master and worked enlisted Officers children. He served as a Scout Master and district executive officer for the Boy Scouts in Oklahoma.
Virgil retired from Ditch Witch in Perry, OK from where he worked for many years.

Virgil married Frances Lee Watson in 1961. They had 5 children, Carl Winters of Enid, OK; Michael Winters of Perry, OK; James Winters (deceased) and wife, Tanya of Garber, OK; Sonya (Chris) Winters (deceased) and Brian Winters, Sr. and wife, Elizabeth of Lucien. Virgil had the blessing of having many grandkids and great grandkids. Ryan Winters (deceased); Lavona Bischoff of Perry, OK; Justin and Morgan Thayer and children, Ryan; Camden; Braden and Owen Thayer of Perry, OK; Casey and Krystle Winters with children, Paxton; Alex; Korben and Emery of Covington, OK; Jackie Sanders and Dustin Tillotson and daughters, Joselynn (deceased); Wilma and Jazmine of Blackwell, OK; Tambra Winters and children, Kyla and Alyk of Garber, OK; Matthew Gilbert of Lacey, OK; Robby and Tessa Winters and Tread of Lucien, OK; Billy and Melissa Winters of Florida and Jeff Winters of Enid, OK; Brian Winters, Jr. and wife, Lee of Lucien, OK; Matt Seward of Crescent, OK; Latasha Gilbert and Christian Guerra and children, Ariyanna and Christian, Jr. of Garber, OK; Jeffery and Lorena Jordan of Tucson, AZ; Baylee Jordan of Hayward, OK; and Dalton Jordan of Lucien, OK; Jada, Ivan, Nora and Liam Winters and many adopted kids and grandkids. He welcomed everyone with open arms and never turned anyone away.

Virgil was a lifetime member of Lucien United Methodist Church, he loved his church family. He loved to fish, work on the farm, and spend time with his family.

The memorial service for Virgil will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Lucien United Methodist Church.
