William Jean Maxwell was born July 13, 1930 at Enid General Hospital to Jason Robert Maxwell and Flossie Mae (Strain) Maxwell and passed away in Edmond, OK on December 28, 2020. The graveside service will be 11:00am Thursday, December 31, 2020 in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum with Reverend Tom Stanley officiating. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Bill was raised on a farm north of Loyal, Oklahoma. He attended Loyal schools and graduated from Loyal High School in May, 1948. As a youngster, he and his twin brother, Bob, sang together on the "Wiley and Gene Show" on WKY Radio in Oklahoma City, and in later years, he sang with the Kings Men Gospel Quartet.

He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Enid in August, 1948 and retired in November, 1985 with thirty-seven years of service. He then worked for Melvin E. Simon and Associates as Mall Decorator for Oakwood Mall and retired in December, 1992.

Bill was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Japan from 1952-1954.

He married Betty Jean Lincoln on August 4, 1950 at the First Baptist Church of Enid and they made Enid their home. They celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary on August 4, 2015. He was a member of Central Christian Church, where he served as a Christian Caregiver, Deacon, and member of the Sooner Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a Lifetime Member of the Communication Workers of America. He was also a Lifetime Member of the Enid Men's Extension Garden Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean in 2017 and sister, Leona Hughes of Ree Heights, SD in 2018. Survivors include daughter, Sandra Kay May and husband, Dr. John May of Austin, TX; son, Colonel Jeffrey W. Maxwell (USAF, Retired) and wife, Myra Jean Maxwell of Edmond, OK. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Dr. Shannon May and husband, Scott Graves and Nicholas May. Other survivors include twin brother, Robert of Eufala, Oklahoma and sister, Thelma Becker (Carl) of Lake Placid, Florida.

Memorials can be given through the funeral home to Enid Men's Extension Garden Club.
