The funeral for Winston Dean Shipley will be 11:00AM Thursday, October 2, 2014 in the Central Christian Church. Reverend John McLemore and Reverend Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Winston Dean Shipley was born August 23, 1928 in Douglas Oklahoma to T.F. and Lottie Eisberg Shipley and died September 27, 2014 at The Commons.
Winston graduated from Enid High School in 1946 and attended Phillips University graduating with a double major in Economics and Accounting. At Enid High School he met the love of his life, Virginia Smith, and the two were married on July 22,1950. Winston was a member of the 45th Division and served two years in Korea. After the war, he worked at Hackney Iron and Steel, Whiteshield Oil and Gas, Bert Smith Road Machinery,and GEFCO. He ended his career as a CPA and was self-employed.
He was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church serving as a Deacon and an Elder. He was a member of the Sooner Sunday School class.
The joys of his life were his children and grandchildren. He was very proud to have raised "independent children" and his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Winston is survived by his children, Ginny(Catina), Dean (Jennifer), Christy(Cathy), and Betsy Denny(Mike). His grandchildren include Sara, Emily, and Bethany Shipley; Katie and Jered Bell; Molly, Annie, and Jacqui Denny; and Alizabeth and Nathan Sundvall. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Shipley (Sally); sister, Ann Mosher(T.J.) and many cousins, nieces and nephews and Michael, Andrew, and Kody Lopez who thought of him as their Grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life, Virginia, and his sister, Guida Tuggle.
The family would like to thank his special caregivers, Angie Epps, Doris Taylor, and Sherry Kirby and the staff at the Commons who treated him with love and kindness.
